  9. Getting Started Today

You've read the guide. You understand the strategy. Now it's time to take action. Here's your step-by-step checklist and your first video assignment.

✅ The Quick-Start Checklist

Complete these steps this week — not next month, not "when you're ready." The best time to start is right now. Done is better than perfect.

1

Clean your phone lens and set video to 1080p or 4K

⏱️ 2 minutes

2

Pick ONE platform to focus on (Instagram Reels or TikTok recommended)

⏱️ 5 minutes

3

Set up your profile: clear headshot, bio that says who you serve, and a link to contact you

⏱️ 15 minutes

4

Download CapCut on your phone

⏱️ 2 minutes

5

Choose a well-lit spot in your home or office for filming (face a window)

⏱️ 5 minutes

6

Write 5 video topic ideas using the list from Chapter 8

⏱️ 10 minutes

7

Film your first video (see assignment below)

⏱️ 15 minutes

8

Edit in CapCut — add captions, trim dead air, and add background music

⏱️ 20 minutes

9

Post it. Don't overthink it. Hit publish.

⏱️ 1 minute

10

Block 2 hours per week in your calendar for batch filming

⏱️ 5 minutes

⏱️ Total Time: ~80 Minutes

In less than an hour and a half, you'll go from "I should start doing video" to having your first piece of content live. That's it. That's all it takes to begin.

🎬 Your First Video Assignment

Here's your assignment. Film this today. Not tomorrow. Today.

Video: "3 Things You Should Know Before Buying in [Your Area]"

Format:

Vertical (portrait), 45-60 seconds, talking head

Hook (first 3 seconds):

"If you're thinking about buying in [neighbourhood/city], here are 3 things you need to know first."

Body (3 points, 15 seconds each):

  • • Point 1: A local market insight (average price, days on market, etc.)
  • • Point 2: A neighbourhood tip (hidden gem, school zone, transit access)
  • • Point 3: A buying tip (pre-approval, budget buffer, inspection importance)

CTA (last 5 seconds):

"Follow me for more [city] real estate tips, and DM me if you have any questions!"

📋 Your First Week Plan

Mon

Film your first video (the assignment above) and post it

Tue

Watch 10 real estate creators on your platform — study their hooks and style

Wed

Film Video #2: "What $[price] gets you in [your area] right now" — show 3 listings

Thu

Engage with comments and other creators on your platform for 15 minutes

Fri

Film Video #3: A quick neighbourhood feature or behind-the-scenes of your day

Sat

Review your analytics — which video got the most views? Take notes

Sun

Plan next week's topics. Write 3-5 hook ideas. Rest and recharge.

🧠 The Mindset Shift

Before you start, internalize these truths:

  • •Your first 10 videos will be bad. That's normal. Everyone's are. Post them anyway.
  • •Nobody is watching at first. That's a gift — use it to practice without pressure.
  • •
  • •Consistency > Quality. A mediocre video posted is infinitely better than a perfect video in your head.
  • A mediocre video posted is infinitely better than a perfect video in your head.
  • •You don't need permission. You don't need a fancy camera, a perfect setup, or a script. You need a phone and something to say.
  • •This compounds. Six months from now, you'll look back and be grateful you started today.

🚀 Stop Reading. Start Filming.

You now have everything you need: the strategy, the structure, the tools, and a clear first step. The only thing standing between you and a thriving video presence is the decision to press record.

Your future self — the one closing deals from inbound leads — will thank you for starting today. 🎬
